Search demand clusters around “how to unlock Nightmare Korra,” “unlock Avatar State Aang,” and related Avatar State slot questions. On this site, Nightmare Korra is media language for the separate launch slot named Avatar State Korra; Avatar State Aang is its own roster slot.
This guide summarizes two unlock tracks repeatedly described in launch media unlock coverage (EventHubs / IGN / TheGamer-class articles): Story Mode progression and a main-menu selection shortcut. It does not invent numeric cheat codes, SuperCombo frame data, or uncorroborated button-pad strings.

Roster identity on this site uses Avatar State Korra and Avatar State Aang as separate launch slots (variants of Korra and Aang). Creators and media often say Nightmare Korra for the Korra variant slot—treat that as a naming alias, not a second character.

- 03Track A — Story Mode progress (Chapter 6 “A Cold Welcome”)
Launch media unlock guides commonly document Story Mode progress through Chapter 6 (“A Cold Welcome”) as a progression unlock checkpoint for the Avatar State / Nightmare Korra and Avatar State Aang slots.
Practical steps: play Story Mode on your platform build, advance through the early chapters until Chapter 6 “A Cold Welcome” is completed, then re-check the character select for the Avatar State slots. Exact chapter lists beyond this named checkpoint are not republished here as a full walkthrough.
Story Mode also has its own XP / Momo’s Bazaar progression (see game content)—those upgrades are separate from whether the Avatar State slots appear on the select screen.
- 04Track B — Main-menu shortcut (Arcade / Training / Local Versus class order)
The same media cluster documents a main-menu selection shortcut. EventHubs, IGN, and launch-week Reddit threads mutually corroborate this order—not a numeric keypad code: on the main menu, highlight Arcade and press Select / Share / View (Backspace on PC), then Training + the same button, then Local Versus + the same button, then Arcade again + the same button. IGN-class write-ups say to complete the sequence quickly (about two seconds). A confirmation jingle is the usual success signal.
Return to character select and check for Avatar State Korra (Nightmare Korra) and Avatar State Aang. Confirm the on-screen labels in your build—menu names can differ slightly by platform.
This site still will not invent a D-pad “secret code” that launch media did not corroborate. If the shortcut fails on your build, use Track A Story progress and re-check after patches.

Do not assume base Aang or base Korra routes transfer one-to-one into Avatar State slots. Finish Character Lessons and Combo Trials for the variant slot on the Patch 2.5 (2026-09-02) build.
Avatar State Korra / Nightmare Korra: the August 5–6, 2026 multi-character adjustment window includes a recorded Hard Knockdown behavior fix for Wildfire Splitter—re-lab any sequence that previously assumed the old knockdown, and keep that fix labeled as history behind the current Patch 2.5 build. No frame tables are published here.
Avatar State Aang: lab one confirm and one Flow cancel unique to this slot; use the base Aang page only for shared systems (Flow, Energy), not copied BnBs.
- 06Sample tiers vs unlock status
Some launch media boards (including Pocket Tactics–class lists) place Nightmare Korra in high-band / A-tier discussion. That is a community sample label only—this site’s rankings[] stay empty and the Week 2 snapshot on /tier-list/ is not a full mirrored S–C board.
Unlocking a slot is not the same as “she is free wins.” Convert in Training before chasing media letter ranks.
